Course Description:

Today's students are digital natives, but navigating the complexities of the online world requires more than just technical skill—it requires a critical mindset. From sophisticated scams and disinformation campaigns to the subtle arts of social engineering, the modern digital landscape is filled with challenges that demand a new kind of literacy.

"The Digital Detective" is a dynamic, interactive workshop that transforms students from passive content consumers into active, critical investigators of their own digital lives. Led by Greyhawk's real-world digital forensics professionals, this is not a lecture about what not to do. It is hands-on training in how to think.

Using anonymized case studies and practical exercises, our investigators will teach students to recognize the patterns of online manipulation, trace the source of viral misinformation, and understand the permanent "digital footprint" they leave behind with every post and click. This workshop equips students with the skepticism of a detective and the practical tools of a forensics expert, empowering them to navigate the online world with confidence, safety, and responsibility.

Target Audience: Middle and High School Students (Ages 13-18). The content can be adjusted for different age groups.

Format: Virtual Interactive Workshop

Duration: 3 Hours (Each module is approximately 50 minutes, with short breaks in between)

Core Objective: To equip students with the critical thinking skills of a digital forensics investigator, empowering them to navigate the online world safely, skeptically, and responsibly.

Instructor Profile: A certified digital forensics professional from Greyhawk Manila. The instructor's real-world experience in investigating cybercrime provides unparalleled credibility and a source of compelling, anonymized case studies.

1. Will my students be engaged, or is this just another boring lecture on internet safety?
  1. 1. Will my students be engaged, or is this just another boring lecture on internet safety?

This is our most important design principle: this is training, not a lecture. The workshop is highly interactive and built around hands-on "investigations." Students work in teams to solve challenges like "The Profile Lineup" and "The Viral Challenge." The program is led by dynamic, professional investigators who use compelling, real-world (and anonymized) stories to make the lessons stick. We find that students are highly engaged when they are challenged to think like detectives.

2. Is the content (like scams and online manipulation) too scary for this age group?
  1. 2. Is the content (like scams and online manipulation) too scary for this age group?

We handle these serious topics in a professional, age-appropriate manner. Our entire focus is on empowerment, not fear. We don't use scare tactics. Instead, we equip students with the critical thinking skills and practical tools to recognize and defend against these threats. The goal is for students to leave the workshop feeling confident and resilient, not frightened.

3. What makes your instructors more qualified than a teacher to teach this?
  1. 3. What makes your instructors more qualified than a teacher to teach this?

Our instructors are active digital forensics professionals. This is our unique advantage. They aren't just teaching theory from a textbook; they are sharing practical knowledge gained from years of experience investigating real-world cybercrime, disinformation campaigns, and data breaches. They bring an unparalleled level of credibility and can answer questions with the authority of someone who works on the front lines of digital security every day.

4. Do students need any special technical skills or software to participate?
  1. 4. Do students need any special technical skills or software to participate?

No. The workshop is designed to be accessible to all students, regardless of their technical skill level. The focus is on critical thinking and awareness. The few tools we do teach, like reverse image search, are free, publicly available, and easy to use on any standard computer or smartphone.

5. What are the key tangible skills a student will have after completing this workshop?
  1. 5. What are the key tangible skills a student will have after completing this workshop?

A student who completes "The Digital Detective" workshop will be able to:

    • Analyze a social media profile for common red flags of a fake account.

    • Perform a reverse image search to verify the source of a photo.

    • Identify the basic visual clues of an AI-generated "deepfake."

    • Explain how their "deleted" data can still exist and how metadata creates a digital trail.

    • Apply a critical thinking framework to assess the credibility of viral news and online information before sharing it.
